You are attempting to distract us with disinformation - what's your
hidden agenda? Everyone knows that Greenwich is the standard point
for LOCATION, not TIME - the time standard is a cesium clock at the
NBS [Nat'l Bur. of Standards] in Washington DC. No, the French are
merely attempting to establish dominion over the FACE OF THE PLANET
and would only affect time indirectly, by shifting time-zone bounds.

Precisely. Clever, nefarious, first-rate plotters would steal time
itself, redefining our units of duration - wait, they tried to do
that [on a macro scale] with the Revolutionary Calendar back around
1790. But although they diddled with weeks, months, and years, they
neglected to strike at the root: the second. 1st-rate conspirators
would redefine our time to match the standsrds of their home planet.
What's the Zeta Reticulan equivalent of the second? We may find out
soon. If the second is ever abandoned, the plot will be fulfilled.
