Yes, of course, this is prep-prop - preparatory propaganda, meant
to acclimatize humans for the public introduction of aliens into
human society. It's a wide-ranging campaign, involving journalism
and entertainment, all the media in the world. There have been a
number of such campaigns:
MR.ED on TV and the FRANCIS films, to prepare us for talking equines;
BEWITCHED, I DREAM OF GENIE and a whole slew of similar fare, to
prepare us for witches/warlocks;
The ELVIS LIVES campaign, to prepare us for revivification;
BARNEY and JURASSIC PARK, to prepare us for revived dinosaurs.
The list goes on and on. Anything *different* is prep-prop.
Then there's the Internet itself, to prepare us for being wired
physically into a meta-human computational community, each 'mind'
being just another cog in the Great Machine, like ants in a colony -
group-mind, the Next Step in directed human evolution. SETI@home
is the latest stage of this plot, to involve everybody in communal
activity. Do you think your computer is REALLY just number-crunching
for SETI whilst you're away from the keyboard? Of COURSE not.
