Kennedy Jr. as a toddler peeking out from under his father's desk, has died. Tretick, 77, died Monday at a Maryland nursing home. The former Marine made a name for himself as a photographer in the 1950s. He worked for news agencies, covering the Korean War and Washington and in later years he was a freelance photographer. He stopped working in 1995. His most-memorable photographs, when Tretick worked for Look magazine, were of the Kennedy White House years and some of the pictures became etched in the memory of Camelot. He covered John F. Kennedy's congressional campaigns in the 1950s and the 1960 presidential election. The photograph of John F. Kennedy Jr. peering through the open front panel of the Oval Office desk while his smiling father shuffled papers overhead was snapped in October 1963, shortly before JFK's assassination. Another memorable Tretick photograph is of Kennedy driving a golf cart overflowing with Kennedy children and cousins. Another is of Kennedy, the presidential candidate, standing on the hood of a car as a sea of hands reach for him. He later became close to Robert F. Kennedy, covering his 1968 presidential campaign and snapping a famous picture of him standing alone with his arms crossed.
