Some members of Congress are appalled by the reams of regulations
issued each year by swarms of unelected federal bureaucrats.
Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Sam Brownback (R.-Kan.) are
two of those, and in June they reintroduced their Congressional
Responsibility Act -- which would require Congress to approve
major agency rules and regulations before they become binding. >>
This is very interesting. Hopefully the Congressional Responsibility Act
will include efforts to mitigate the influence of the many, many "think
tanks" whose unwanted kibbitzing in the Halls of Congress have resulted in
legislation that benefits only a small portion of our society (often to the
detriment of the rest). A little more acceptance of responsibility on the
part of Congress would be more than welcome. Their constant reliance on the
"unintended consequences" factor has left many citizens wondering whether
"elected" officials have any interest in the public good at all. Prudy
