The lever of the NFL was used as a nixonian psychological
domination technique to instill urinalysis in America. The
salary hikes coincide well with this...the players at first
threatened to strike (The Great Shark Hunt HS Thompson) but
capitulated and got PAID. Their consent was needed by
Richard Nixon Bush to begin the Drug War. Then later came
Fred Smiths lobbying for deregulation, finally accomplished
after some very slick dealing, his employees were some of
the first civilian business work forces to fall under dot
regulation. The urinalysis thing was introduced into
American Industry via that channel. I worked for Federal
Express for 2.5 years and learned a lot. There was an
incident in Tampa about ten years after fedex got rolling,
where random testing had been done, and the fired employees
got together and sued and won and got backpay and their jobs
back. No more random testing after that...everybody
scheduled. It all stinks like shit. They are silly penny
counting fools.
Anyway.
When I left the company in 89 or so (54169) I wrote a
letter that I have always wanted to write ever since I saw
it in a Tom Robbins book (Another Roadside
Attraction?).....and it was so very apt....I was a major
producer as far as performance was concerned, and I took
full advantage for a little pshycho warfare of my own...I
wrote a resignation letter that said I had been sick ever
since working there, and now I was well. I quit. Reality
is plastic. See ya. Triggered a few people and didn't even
know what it was then.
