Actually, if anyone "wrote the script" for the Apollo 13 incident, it would
have to be Robert A. Heinlein and Jules Verne. Apollo 13 followed the plot
of Heinlein's *Destination Moon*, which was made into a landmark
science-fiction film, to an uncanny degree. The only real difference was
that Heinlein's astronauts landed on the Moon, while Apollo 13 was forced to
travel around it in a slingshot orbit like the one Jules Verne used in *From
the Earth to the Moon*. As it happens, Verne's book includes some weirdly
accurate predictions, including the launch of the "moonshot" from Florida
and the eventual splashdown in the South Pacific...
