The market-moving action will begin early Tuesday with the release of
the Labor Department's Consumer Price Index report. According to the average
estimate of analysts polled by Reuters, consumer prices likely rose at a 0.4
percent pace last month. Excluding often-volatile food and energy costs,
prices probably advanced at a 0.3 percent pace, according to economists'
forecasts. The report will be released at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time.

Also on Tuesday, Commerce releases September's housing starts and
building permits figures. Analysts polled by Reuters expect that housing
starts fell to 1.64 million units from 1.68 million units in August. As for
building permits, analysts polled expect the number of permits rose to 1.63
million from 1.61 million.
More earnings news will also dominate the Wall Street agenda Tuesday,
particularly from high-tech companies as Microsoft (MSFT), Peoplesoft
(PSFT), and Xilinx (XLNX), among others, unveil their earnings. Philip
Morris (MO), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Reynolds Metals (RLM), Northwest
Airlines (NWAC) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) will unveil their quarterly
performances.
And shares of both Martha Stewart Living Omnipoint (MSO) and World
Wrestling Federation Entertainment (WWFE) will undoubtedly garner attention
as the year's most anticipated initial public offerings begin trading.
Martha Stewart shares will trade at an initial price of 18 a share, while
World Wrestling Federation will trade at an initial price of 17 a share.
Both companies will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
