I think the most unusual thing I ever read about Australian Aborigines was in
some anthropological material when it was recounted that when the so-called
civilized society encountered one group there was a woman who was a deaf
mute.  Some unusual scars she had on her abdomen were questioned.  It was
explained that since they thought her problem could have been passed to her
children, they had removed her ovaries.  Apparently she had survived the
operation without any problem.  Strange.  Prudy
