After his speech, a reporter from a major newspaper chain (Gannett) interviewed me. He asked me what I thought of "rumors" that Pat was merely a Republican agent sent to take over the Reform Party. What nonsense, I exclaimed! Had the reporter not seen the vitriolic attacks from the GOP Establishment and Pat's own anguish over leaving the party to which he had devoted his career? This was just another sign of how many levels and angles Pat's enemies are using to discredit his run. I quickly brushed aside the reporter's oddball thesis and replied that if anyone was a Republican plant to neutralize the Reform Party it was Donald Trump. What other role could the sudden appearance of Trump, a man with no prior political ambitions or signs of interest in national policy, have but to take the Reform Party out of the picture? The only purpose of the Reform Party is to provide an alternative to the two Establishment parties; a Trump nomination would end that role. Trump has made (and lost) fortunes in real estate and other ventures, but is best known to the public for an ego the size of Trump Towers, his flamboyant ex-wife Ivana and a recent series of TV ads hawking pizza. As a political thinker, he is such a cartoon character that he makes the other contending lightweight millionaire, Steve Forbes, look like John Stuart Mill in comparison. Trump represents everything Pat's campaign is protesting. In his historic speech, Pat assailed the fact that "neither [party] fights today with conviction and courage to rescue God's country from the cultural and moral pit into which she has fallen. The day of the outsider is over in the Beltway parties; the money men have seen to that." Trump is the penultimate money man, who denounces the GOP for being run by "the crazy right" whom he sees as already being too concerned with cultural and moral issues. The "money men" care for nothing beyond money. In the short-term that is their strength in our corrupt political system, but in the long-term it is their weakness and the ruin of the country. I am reminded of the words of Joseph Schumpeter, one of the giants of modern economic thought. A staunch defender of capitalism, he lionized the entrepreneur as the key to the system's success. In his classic work Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy (written after he had fled Nazi Germany for America and first published in 1942), Schumpeter predicted the failure of socialism as an economic system. Yet, he still warned that Western Civilization was doomed. He feared the material success of capitalism would catapult businessmen into positions of national and social power to which they were totally unsuited. Their narrow views and disinterest in cultural values would destroy the "steel frame" that held society together. >From his long study of history, Schumpeter concluded: "We have seen that the industrialist and the merchant, as far as they are entrepreneurs, also fill a function of leadership. But economic leadership of this type does not readily expand...into the leadership of nations. On the contrary, the ledger and the cost calculation absorb and confine." The business class, he continued "is ill equipped to face the problems, both domestic and international, that have normally to be faced by a country of any importance." It would be hard to write a better description of Donald Trump. The problem with the Republican Party is that is has already fallen under the control of the "business class." When Steve Forbes, a man whose name is synonymous with Wall Street, is touted as the leading "conservative" candidate in the GOP field, you know the game is over. To give the Reform Party to Trump would make it indistinguishable from the GOP. We know that after this past Monday night he may not return for awhile; we must let Pat go to the rest of the country now! ;) This field report is late because I have so many mixed feelings. After reading Paul Carl's report I decided to add to his accurate and wonderful email. My friends, Monday night was a monumental day for me as well as for Pat Buchanan. It's not just Pat who is going for the Reform Party nomination, I, we, are going for the Reform Party nomination. This means a paradigm shift for each one of us. If you are still a Brigader at this point, that tells me that you put our country over any political party. I for one do and have for years, but, despite being registered independent for all my 12 years in New Hampshire, there is still a sense of "we're really on our own now" that I did not feel in '92 and '96 or in '00 up until Monday, October 25, 1999. With that being said, I saw a different Pat Buchanan. I saw a man who was braver, stronger, more courageous, more steadfast than I thought any candidate could ever be, even our beloved Pat. I saw a man respond forcefully, directly and candidly to the New World Order apparatchik and the undeclared *terrorist* war being waged by the globalists and UN defenders against our sovereignty. Pat has made a monumental decision. While it was not made easily, it was made completely and with no regrets. There is a sense of relief for Pat now. Although the battlefield has changed, the war has not. Pat understands what the new battles are and what the rules of engagement are and he humbly accepts his continued role of being the leader of our cause. Now, each of us must be prepared to stand firm and loyal with him. We must let him and Shelly know that he is not alone. We must sacrifice, like we all have throughout this campaign and his others, and we must show our financial support so that they can finance this undeclared war against us and our Republic. And we will need to work more than ever before. We will have different orders issued this time around. No more midnight sign runs, no more get-out-the-vote phone banks, no more poll-standing in a New Hampshire winter day with ice cold feet and hands, no more all-night mailings, no more leafleting church parking lots the Sunday before primary day, . . . every aspect of this war is different and yet the goal is the same. Save our Republic. On Monday, October 25, 1999 in Londonderry, New Hampshire, my family, once again got to see and hear the only person remotely capable of being our General or Admiral in this epic fight. When people ask me about Pat Buchanan, I resolutely answer with, "Here I stand. I can do no other."
