-Caveat Lector- I guess this is a new branch of the School of the Americas... =================================================== African Generals, Politicians Study Democracy DAKAR, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Senior military officers and politicians from across Africa went back to the classroom on Tuesday for a special U.S.-sponsored course on democracy. The two-week course at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies is largely financed by the U.S. Defence Department. Britain and France have contributed staff to the seminar and are also paying some of the costs, organisers said. Two participants -- one military and one civilian -- have been nominated by each African state, with the exception of Libya, Sudan and Somalia, which have no ties with the United States. Nancy Walker of the Africa Center said it was supporting democracy in Africa by offering civilian and military leaders a rigorous academic and practical programme in civil-military relations, national security and defence economics.
