Yes, I heard that too among the first news report on our local ABC radio
affiliate. The media definitely announced that the plane had requested to
stop after leaving Los Angeles, and it had been routed to Edwards Air
Force Base. The news announcer even speculated on air with his partner
what that might signify, since it is FAA policy to reroute all planes in trouble
to civilian airports.
Then, a few hours later, the announcer read outloud something he had
been handed saying the Air Force had denied the earlier report of the
plane landing at Edwards. What's more, although there were no survivors
and it looked as if there would be no onboard witnesses as to whether the
plane had landed at Edwards, suddenly the media was saying that a single,
solitary passenger who had boarded in Los Angeles disembarked in New
York, escaping the crash.
This passenger can of course say definitively whether there was a
landing or not--if he is reliable. As it turns out, the sole passenger to leave
EgyptAir 990 in New York was a senior airlines employee--a professional
"grief counselor" whose job is to deal with the relatives of those who die in
airline disasters!
I heard this grief counselor briefly interviewed; he expressed his horror
at the accident but the consolation that he was now on hand in New York to
help the families of the victims. Is there anyone who agrees with me that
this is just a shade too coincidental?
