Bulgarians Report Seizure of Acetic Acid from KLA Group

     November 18, 1999

     Sofia, November 18th (Tanjug) - Bulgarian government newspaper
     Demokratija reported that Bulgarian customs officials seized 953
     kilograms of acetic acid anhydride, a catalyst in the heroin
     production process, in a truck loaded in Pristina, heading for
     Turkey.

     According to the newspaper, the Bulgarian authorities claim that
     the merchandize was loaded in Pristina by a narco-group connected
     to KLA.

     Demokratija also reports that the chemical was sent from Kosovo,
     across Macedonia, to Turkey.

     Seizure of this lethal load is yet another proof of terrorist
     financial sources and their connection with narco-Mafia.

     More than 60 plastic barrels with acetic acid anhydride were loaded
     in a truck with Turkish license plates, and the driver is a Turkish
     citizen.

     The amount of acetic acid anhydride seized at the end of last week
     is sufficient for production of 400 kilograms of heroin.

     According to the report, a van transporting 1.000 kilos of the
     acetic acid anhydride was captured at the same border crossing in
     April last year.
