Three French Former Ministers on Trial for Corruption, AFP Says

Paris, Dec. 13 (Bloomberg) -- French prosecutors asked a court to convict
three former government ministers for corruption in connection with a party
funding fraud involving 25 million francs ($3.9 million), Agence
France-Presse reported, without citing sources. Former Justice Minister
Pierre Mehaignerie, former Labor Minister Jacques Barrot and former Transport
Minister Bernard Bosson are accused of fraudulently funding the centrist
Democratic Social Center party between 1986 and 1991, laundering the money
through Swiss bank accounts. The prosecution took the unusual step of not
recommending a sentence against the accused, who face up to five years in
prison if convicted, AFP said.

The French government called Sept. 26 for international steps to crack down
on money laundering.
