These doctrinal statements are the core of the modern fundamentalist Christian faith. In view of the fact that many in the fundamentalist church in America teach that the New World Order conspiracy theory is fact, those who may question my motives or convictions are encouraged to read the following. The Trinity I believe that there is but one eternal God; the father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are each God; each are distinct from one another and each of these three Persons is God and each is an eternal, coexistent Person, and that they are so united as to comprise one God. The Virgin Birth I believe that the unique feature of Christ’s birth was that His birth was a virgin birth. His conception was not the result of human generation. While the prenatal development of the Holy Child and His birth were natural processes, His conception was unique and radically different from all others in that it was wholly that of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit created of Mary’s substance a complete human nature; body, soul, and spirit. The Deity of Christ I believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten eternal Son of God, the second Person of the Holy Trinity. I believe that everything that can be asserted about the Father can be asserted of Him. Salvation by Grace I believe that salvation is by divine grace through faith, and grace through faith alone, not the result of human works. I believe that true salvation will become manifest in the life of a true believer, and that those who do not begin to outwardly show signs of inner repentance can be said to have not received true salvational faith. I believe that you will know the believer by his fruit. I believe that true salvation comes through repentance of sin and the washing of the blood of Jesus Christ. This statement is in stark contrast to the teaching of many whose essential message is that Christ’s imminent return is reason to receive Christ by faith. I believe that those who teach this as truth are teaching a false version of the Gospel according to Jesus. The Inerrancy of the Holy Scriptures I believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, given through the co-authorship of the Holy Spirit to the writers of the Holy Scriptures. I believe that the Bible is inerrant in matters of Faith and living, and that wherever its content intersects with that of scientific fact, it is equally inerrant. ===== A conspiracy theory is a falsified version of history or current events that redirects an audiences anger toward a scapegoated group. The theory seeks to lay blame for a legitimate issue on a perceived common enemy. As with any issue that a society deals with, there are legitimate concerns that need to be addressed. Conspiracy theories, however, do not attempt to address any legitimate concerns with realistic solutions. Their sole purpose is to lay blame for the common problem. By only laying blame for the problem, the issue becomes, in effect, a renewable source of fuel for the audience. If, for example, the problem of crime is not effectively dealt with, a conspiracy theorist will lay blame on the “liberal establishment” or, on the other end of the political spectrum, the gun lobby. Neither liberals nor guns really have anything to do with crime rates. 30 minutes at a local jail will cure you quick of that foolishness. These are convenient scapegoats for conspiracy theorists to lay blame. And without any solutions, the presenting problem is never dealt with. Hence, the blame becomes the renewable fuel. But blame shifting and scapegoating are part of the democratic process, messy as it is. The issue that makes a conspiracy theory distinguishable is the falsification of fact that leads the audience toward a conclusion that there is a conspiracy out there that is deliberately attacking the group’s belief system, wherever that system is located on the political spectrum. I will deal with this issue in much more detail in an upcoming essay. I expect to be finished in February or March, 2000. ===== I generally recommended the following resources: Richard Abanes, American Militias: Rebellion, Racism and Religion Intervarsity Press, 1996 Paul T.
