-Caveat Lector- <A HREF="http://www.ctrl.org/"> </A> -Cui Bono?- Giuliani the Criminal By Robert Lederman Six years ago I and my fellow street artists introduced the slogans Impeach Giuliani, Indict Giuliani and Arrest Giuliani to a City enamored with its 107th Mayor. Back then, a lot of people thought we were either crazy or just kidding. Now, even the top elected officials in New York are echoing our call. It would be ironic if after a lifetime of professional criminal activity the Mayor ends up being impeached, indicted or criminally convicted for releasing NYPD shooting victim Patrick Dorismond's sealed juvenile records. As repulsive and deserving of punishment as that crime is, it's actually one of the lesser offenses in Giuliani's long criminal history. >From his days in the Justice Department under Reagan, Giuliani has been intimately involved in numerous criminal conspiracies and crimes. To name just a few: -The quashing of the McDonnel Douglas Federal criminal investigation while he was the #3 official at the Justice Dept. -Facilitating the importation of cocaine by right-wing factions within the U.S. government into minority areas in order to finance the contra death squads. -His part in escalating the phony "war on drugs" resulting in the arrest, criminalization and imprisonment of millions of citizens across the U.S. and a massive increase in profits for his pals in the prison-industrial complex. -The forcible return of Haitian refugees to certain death under Duvalier after Associate Attorney General of the United States Rudy Giuliani visited Haiti and bizarrely claimed there was no political repression or human rights abuses there. -The systematic trashing of the First Amendment that has been the centerpiece of his administration. -His inciting of a racist police riot on the steps of City Hall. -Hundreds of thousands of false arrests for non-criminal activities made solely in order to enhance his political reputation and create impressive statistics. -Ordering misdemeanor defendants put through the system after they've already been booked in a police precinct for no reason other than to punish them without due process or a trial. -The monstrous Eugenics experiment of spraying organophosphate nerve gas that causes DNA damage and cancer, weakens the immune system and worsens asthma on eight million unsuspecting New York City residents in order to fight a non-existent "epidemic". -The systematic violations of the civil rights of cab drivers, street artists, unions, vendors, community gardeners, homeless people, the handicapped, students and welfare families. -The racist targeting of minorities as instigated by his Manhattan Institute patrons resulting in the deaths of innocent and unarmed New Yorkers. -The misappropriation of public money to benefit billionaire corporations and Giuliani contributors like the Yankees, Chase Bank and the NY Stock Exchange. Any of these crimes could have resulted in the Mayor's arrest, conviction and sentencing to a penitentiary if our elected officials had taken a stand against the Mayor or had simply told the public the truth about him. Instead, most of our politicians and much of the media have spent six years mindlessly praising Giuliani's false accomplishments while mouthing off an occasional soundbite about his nasty temperament. Let's get real. Giuliani has carefully and cleverly exploited his infamous temperament as a cover for six years. He's dressed in drag, impersonated the Godfather and shaken his booty on stage in order to distract us from the ugly truth behind his daily actions. Giuliani is not merely rude, insensitive, hot-tempered or a "nasty man". Neither is he a pious uptight alter boy trying to make the City safe for little old ladies. He is a vicious criminal and an ideologically committed racist. His patronage mill administration is staffed by incompetent flunkies whose main qualification is the ability to keep their mouths shut about his crimes and about the criminal policies of the agencies they run according to his dictates. He represents more danger to public safety than anyone being held in an American jail cell today. Giuliani time is over. Now is the time for our public servants to do their duty and remove this criminal from office without further delay. Apologies are not in order from this Mayor. Neither is sensitivity training, staged meetings with hand-picked community leaders or insincere admissions of having erred and then asking for forgiveness. We must show Giuliani the same zero tolerance he's shown the people of this City for the past six years. Before more damage is done, let's do the right thing and send Rudy to Rikers.
