I guess I gotta weigh in on this subject as well. I will not call those who hold a
Christian worldview stupid, naive, or anything else derogatory. It does not promote
discussion when one starts off with a blanket statement against such groups.
I feel as though some things could be said concerning the site that is mentioned in
this e-mail (below). The viewpoint expressed is one we are all familiar with, and
that is that CT is a bunch of bunk and there is no REAL conspiracy except the OPEN and
not so secret conspiracy of Satan vs. God. Would that that were true. Everything
really would be a lot simpler.
What Christians, and others with definite faith and belief issues, fail to ever
address is the fact that the basis for their own beliefs is called into question, on
good historical and linguistic evidence too. THUS, the ideas they promulgate are
believed by some to be worthless AND a part of a conspiracy in and of themselves. So
Christianity is viewed by many to be a conspiracy of social control, invented and
promulgated to control the actions of people and to subvert true spiritual advancement.
One must approach ALL of these issues with an eye toward seperating the wheat from the
chaff (as the good book says). There are definite conspiracies, there are some that
are bunkum, there are some that are tenuous. One must look at the whole and make up
ones own mind. Of course if you believe what a Church or "Holy" book tells you then
you have the map for belief or disbelief already (whether I think that is a good idea
or not is irrelevant, if it is a thing you gain value from, then go for it).
In my estimation, most, if not all, major religions of today and throughout history
have been formed in a conspiratorial fashion in order to excercise control of people
and to stifle true spiritual advancement. But that is just my opinion, based on my
own study and interpretation of historical writings and history itself. Some
religions had a grain of truth in the beginning from which sprang the shibboleth of
their present incarnations. There is yet much that can be gained by the wisdom of
those "prophets" and "saints" and "Holy men" who have lived and given us things to
ponder and ruminate upon. One must discern the truth of all this as much as one
should be discerning the truth of Conpiracy Theory. Just saying; "God says don't
believe in it." is not good enough IMO.
I find it ironic therefore that a group would admonish its members from being drawn
into a web of conspiracy theory because it is against their own teachings and "Holy"
works, when the very thing they are using as their basis is subject to the same
conspiratorial origins, and uses.
Oh well, to each his own.
