Actually I would argue that the 'explosion' came in the mid- to late-1970s, with
the publication, and subsequent TV-movie starring Sally Field, of "Sybil"...that
book was a major bestseller (which is why the movie was made), and opened the
door to MPD being considered as happening more often than previously thought. In
comparision, "Michelle Remembers" is actually a relatively obscure book...
