Suppose some other Very Intelligent species with Human looking DNA - say
60% Human was found living in a deep cave on this planet - and wanted to
come forward and claim its Human ancestry and certain land, mineral or
legal rights - would we then be setting a precedent by defining the lowest
possible limit of similarity at which a human can be legally defined - and
therefore maybe 'a priori' disinherit said Very Intelligent' species with a
human/X DNA ratio of 60/40.
And if this were the case - maybe some other criteria for the state of
being human should be argued for - not on an empirical reductionist agenda,
but on moral and ethical grounds. For we dearly want the meek to inherit
the earth in court - and leave enough room for our banana loving friends to
thrive.
