The Democratic Party, as it is run, is the worst enemy to our non-existent freedom precisely because it masquerades as the friend of the common man. Yet the past eight years have seen the destruction of welfare, horrible incarceration rates, unbridled corruption, support for dictators and abusers of human and ecological rights, the genocidal destruction and re-colonization of Kosovo, the bombing and starvation of tens of thousands of children in Iraq, genocide in Rwanda, East Timor and Somalia, the reintroduction of defoliants worse than Agent Orange into the third world and preparation for an inevitable ground war in Colombia. Once again a Volvo Democrat seems to utter a palliative to make himself feel better while wearing Nike shoes and enjoying the benefits of mutual funds supported by drug profits. That is my impression of dopewar's analysis. Evil is evil is evil! Wherever it is encountered it should be recognized, exposed, illuminated. Anyone who has the courage to expose it should be supported. I have read significant portions of Garland's book and I have also noted that Garland went to great pains to point out the deep involvement of Bush, Casey, North et al in the drug trade. He did not point fingers in only one direction. The British educator Herbert Spencer wrote that the single biggest bar to progress, knowledge and learning was an attitude he called "contempt prior to investigation." Sorry dopewar, but you are busted. Besides that, I have less than full confidence in people who are reluctant to post their full names openly on this list.
