MONICA LINK IN FIRST LADY'S LATEST FUND-RAISER

Hillary Rodham Clinton is set to attend a Senate campaign
fund-raiser at the home of the wealthy New Yorker who boosted
Monica Lewinsky for her internship at the White House, The Post
has learned.
In one of the more bizarre happenings on the campaign trail,
Clinton is slated to be the star attraction at the big-money
event Friday to be hosted by retired insurance tycoon Walter
Kaye.
Kaye - a megadonor to the Democratic Party and one-time frequent
guest of the Clintons - is the influential fat-cat who
recommended Monica for her White House internship in 1995.
Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson had no comment on the
turn of events.
Kaye, 80, is hosting the luncheon at his Park Avenue home to
raise money for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Funds collected by the group - considered soft money because
there is no limit on the size of the donations - can be used to
help Clinton and other Democratic candidates around the country.
Kaye could not be reached for comment.
Known in philanthropic circles as a supporter of liberal and
Jewish causes, Kaye has given thousands to the Democratic Party
over the years, contributed to the Clintons' legal defense fund
and given the first family pricey gifts.
Hillary Clinton was the guest of honor at a $1,000-a-ticket
fund-raiser Kaye and his wife, Selma, held in 1997 - pre-Sexgate
- for then-mayoral candidate Ruth Messinger.
Kaye's largesse was well-rewarded with invitations to White House
huddles in Hillary Clinton's second-floor suite of offices and
exclusive birthday parties for the president and Chelsea Clinton.
But the Kayes found themselves suddenly out of favor when Kaye -
a friend of Lewinsky's mother, Marcia Lewis - was dragged into
the Sexgate scandal.
The report on the Oval Office scandal by former Independent
Counsel Ken Starr quoted Kaye as saying that Monica was an
"aggressive young lady" who asked him to get her a permanent job
at the White House.
Monica also repeatedly invoked "Uncle Walter" in her futile
search for better White House jobs and rescue from the Pentagon,
according to reports at the time.
