: Press Release : The Death of Citizen Due to the Injuries by Israeli : Occupying Forces : Ref: 86/2000 : Date: 28 June 2000 : On 28 June 2000 the policeman Yousef Mahmoud Abu Nahel from Gaza, 23 : years old died from gun wounds after being shoot on 17 May, 2000. Abu : Nahel was working for the Palestinian Police Forces in Ramallah when : clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli occupying forces : took place during the 52nd anniversary of Al-Nakba (the anniversary of : uprooting the Palestinian people from their land). Palestinian Police : intervened to prevent the clashes between the Palestinians and Israeli : occupying forces. At the same time other bloody clashes between : Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli occupying forces that took place : in different areas of West Bank and Gaza Strip resulted in death of : 6 Palestinians. Among these, four died after they were shoot by the : Israeli soldiers while the other two who were children died after : being ran over by a settler in his car. : PCHR strongly condemned the actions and practices of Israeli occupying : forces against the Palestinian people. Such actions led to death of 7 : Palestinians and injury of hundred more civilians during the clashes : between Palestinians and Israeli soldier at the time of the anniversary : of Al-Nakba. : These actions present deliberate and clear orders given to Israeli : soldiers to use excessive force against Palestinian demonstrators. : PCHR reminds the High Contracting Parties to the IVth Geneva Convention : of their obligations in the convention.
