Hi Kris,

I don't know how to say this, but I want to thank you again for saying
adios to David Sutherland. A dear friend of mine died of AIDS today.
For more than 20 years, he has been one of my best friends, and I have
never met a kinder or more generous person. So I have lots of lovely
memories, and will be glad until the day that I die that I knew him and
that we were friends.

So, it was particularly difficult for me at this time to follow the
'fag' thread, and I was quite emotional when reading the posts, and
should have responded but didn't. I felt at that point I would have
been adding more fule to the fire.

At this time, all I would like to say is that my friend was a productive
member of society who made life better for lots of people around the
world through his work - and through his thougtfulness and generosity,
made my life happier.

And although he never hid the fact he was gay, the average person
meeting him would never guess. He was a big, strong man with many
talents and friends, and will be greatly missed my many.

I must say I admired and was thankful to Nessie and June, in particular,
for trying to set the record 'straight' so to speak.

In my five or so years on the internet I have come to the conclusion
that there are some cowards sitting behind their computers, and that
they are spiteful at their own lack of confidence in themselves, and so
then inflict their pettiness and vindictiveness on those they *perceive*
to be weaker than they are. And they shore up their insecurities by
relying on outside sources - whether that be political or religious
doctorine. Instead of thinking for themselves, they let others think
for them.

I do not mean to impinge on personal beliefs - our whole world and
existence is made up of beliefs based on simple questions such as why we
are here, and where we are going, and what to do in the meantime. It
seems to me it is the 'what to do in the meantime' that causes the most
problems on one hand, and the most innovation on the other.

Anyway, I am rambling, and sad, so sorry about that. I guess it just
shocked me to be reading such awful things when all of my experience has
shown me another side - and I always wonder - why do people become so
hateful and intolerant? Do they not see the joy in life?

Kelly
