I live in southern Connecticut, and the FIRST reports we heard stated
Kennedy had taken a route along our shoreline.

I can confirm that those were the conditions in Connecticut at the
time.
One of the reasons Kennedy may have chosen the Connecticut shoreline to
follow is because I-95 follows the shoreline, and is an extremely
visible feature, especially at night, and especially on a Friday night
in summer as all the Noo Yawkers head out to their vacation homes in
eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island...
Take a look at any satellite photo taken of Connecticut at night -- the
shoreline is distintly lit by the lights of Interstate-95, and the
headlights of the cars on it...

What they are playing on is the fact that haze and a bit of fog DO
normally form overnight during the summer here in southern New
England...but it is extremely low fog, and rarely is it 'pea-soup'...we
usually only get that sort of fog, the type where you can hardly see 5
feet in front of you, in the spring and autumn...
The fog that develops overnight during the summer here burns off by
mid-morning, because it is so low. It is definitely nothing that gives
the southern New England fishing industry any problems, and anyone
piloting a small aircraft would not be disoriented by it, since any fog
would be well below him or her...and not thick enough that they
wouldn't have been able to see street lights, landing lights, etc.
Even when bringing the plane down for landing and entering any fog
bank, it would be a rare summer fog that would be so thick that a pilot
would become so disoriented as to not know 'down' from 'up'...
I will concede that an inexperienced pilot may have problems landing at
night in fog...but only when he or she actually approaches the landing
strip and enters the fog bank...it wouldn't explain someone flying
ABOVE the fog bank, suddenly plunging their craft down into the
ocean...

Correct. He apparently also made no mention of 'heavy fog' causing him
any difficulties.

How could he have contemplated running for the Senate against H.

I suspect a typo here...if he WAS contemplating a bid for the
presidency, one presumes that he saw the current Senate race as his
springboard...so he would get elected NY's senator in 2000, and then
make a bid for the presidency in 2004...which is basically the same
thing his father did, albeit in Massachusetts...

I've always found it strange that she opted to go backpacking out west
that weekend instead of attending her cousin's wedding - the reason her
brother and sister-in-law were making that flight out to the Vineyard.
It's almost like it was a deliberate thing, as if she suspected
something was going to be afoot that weekend...

Ted Kennedy seemed to be the leader of this faction...as if he was
kowtowing to the shots called by someone else.
It all was pretty rushed. And conveniently removes the bodies from any
possible study in the future.
