Subject: [Robot-for-President] Can a Quantum Computer Compute So-called
"Non-computible" Numbers? [fwd]
The issue of consciousness in quantum computing is indeed a
puzzlement. Some of the greatest minds of our day invoke
"consciousness" in their discussions of quantum computing principles.
But I have yet to see a proof that consciousness must be invoked. Until I
see that I will conclude that "consciousness" is a redundancy and that it
should be replaced with something like "physical phenomenon x" (perhaps x
is a principle relating to organization of a great amount of data in the
physical realm). Consciousness is usually understood as a METAphysical
phenomenon and we should not, on a whim, change its meaning as Microsoft
has changed the meaning of "icon".
So how CAN we prove whether a quantum robotic controller is conscious
or not? This just came to mind. First it assumes that quantum computers
are much more highly developed than those reported now. Next, consider
those problems said to be noncomputible because they would require more
physical units than all the particles in the universe, to be computed. An
example of such a problem is that of calculating all the routes between
all cities in the US. That being so, a quantum computer which has been
given that problem and comes back with the correct answer must have used
a nonphysical method for its solution.
Correction: "Ricci" the robot claims to have quantum computing power
sufficient for this, does it not? Perhaps Ron Blue (cc'd) can tell us what
Ricci "says" when given that problem. If Ricci is using pure consciousness
it is not limited by the physical realm. It is literally and truly a
"spiritual machine". BTW if Ricci can do this and can be proven to do
this, then the proof immediately receives James Randi's $1,000,000 for
"The Psychic Challenge". But what if Ricci the robot is a liar?!!

PS-What is the penalty for "roboperjury"?
