Lazio Catapults Ahead in Wake of Slur Charge Against Hill
Long Island Congressman Rick Lazio has lept into the lead over
Hillary Clinton in New York's Senate race, with nearly half of
all New Yorkers surveyed saying they'll vote for him instead of
the first lady in November, reports Sunday's New York Post.
Mrs. Clinton now trails Lazio 42 percent to 49.6 percent, among
605 likely voters questioned Thursday and Friday by Zogby
International. The surge in Lazio's support puts him in the lead
for the first time since he announced his candidacy in May.
A Zogby poll taken a week after his announcement had Mrs.Clinton
leading the Long Island Republican by a razor thin margin, 46 to
44 percent.
The first lady's most dramatic drop in popularity took place
among Jewish New Yorkers, with only 47.8 percent of those
surveyed now backing her Senate bid. That's a whopping ten point
drop for Mrs. Clinton since the last Zogby poll in June.
The precipitous decline follows by just two weeks widely
publicized charges that the first lady once called a campaign
aide and "f - - king Jew bastard."
Last Septempber, NewsMax.com was the first to report Mrs.
Clinton's alleged use of anti-Jewish slurs, when former Clinton
bodyguard Larry Patterson alleged that it was "quite common" for
her to use that very same phrase and others like it.
