The subject was about his vision of where science would take us in the New Millennium. The speech was witty, despite descending somewhat into the fairly mind-wrenching realm of particle physics. Nevertheless, Hawking had some interesting general points to make as well. When discussing our explosive population growth and rate of scientific advance, he wondered whether we would eventually self-destruct. Then he said this: �Clearly the present exponential growth can not continue indefinitely. So what will happen? One possibility is that we wipe ourselves out completely by some disaster such as a nuclear war. There is a sick joke that the reason we have not been contacted by extra-terrestrials is that when a civilisation reaches our stage of development it becomes unstable and destroys itself. Of course it is possible that UFO's really do contain aliens, as many people believe, and the government is hushing it up. I couldn't possibly comment! Personally I believe there's a different explanation why we have not been contacted, but I won't go into it here. However even without that there is a very real danger that we will kill everything on this planet now that we have the technological power to do so.� When attempting to interpret what Hawking was alluding to here, one must bear in mind the context in which this speech was made. This wasn�t a little chat over a couple of pints down the pub. No, this was a speech made at the White House in front of the President of the United States! Hawking has brought up the subject of UFOs, and potential alien visitation of our world, during a land-mark speech about the future of science. Hawking�s remark about not being able to comment about a UFO cover-up is clearly a joke, and is in keeping with a number of other witty political remarks made during his speech. He may consider it possible that the US Government really is covering up UFOs, and is also enjoying a not-so-subtle dig. Alternatively, he may just be having a bit of a laugh, to lighten a speech that becomes more intense later on. What is more intriguing is the next line: �Personally I believe there's a different explanation why we have not been contacted, but I won't go into it here.� This comes across as a far more serious comment. It indicates that Hawking has at least considered this problem, and presumably has his own pet theory. But why mention this at all? His speech would have continued perfectly well without this bizarre aside. Hawking is clearly drawing attention to the fact that he is turning over the extra-terrestrial intelligence issue in his mind. Is he hinting to the powers that be that he has information to provide? That if they are indeed quietly interested in this subject, he would be prepared to come in on the loop? The only way to find out is to ask him. In the course of his lecture Mr. Adair told an anecdote about meeting famed British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking. After conversing a while, Hawking asked Adair where he got his such-advanced knowledge about physics and applied technology. Adair said, "I am given those ideas while I sleep," (alluding to nocturnal ET sleep-teaching.) Hawking replied, "If you had told me any other source, I would not have believed you. I get my best ideas that way, too." Thus Hawking as well as Adair acknowledge their indebtedness to their ET teachers for the excellent coaching that has allowed them to make such advanced contributions to science so remarkably. And thus, Stephen Hawking knows first-hand that extraterrestrials are real and are visiting Earth, because Hawking has benefited from their mental contacts. And that is why Hawking had the conviction and the nerve to bring up UFO/ET reality publicly in front of President Clinton.
