Satan is based on older mythological characters. Possibly from the Mystery
Cults, but almost certainly on any of the Dualistic superstitions which had
existed prior to the growth of Pagan Christianity. There was never a Satan in
the Jewish Jesus movement from which Pagan Christianity split off.
Jews believe in an ' evil urge ' and a ' good urge ' but that's as far as it
goes. Satan is a necessary part of Christian dogma for the following reason.
If you believe in a god who is all good, then how do you account for all the
evil in the world? You must also invent an equally powerful god of evil to
account for the horrors which existed in the pre modern era. And to this, I
would add that it makes for a story of high drama. Good verses Evil. Sons of
Light vs. Sons of Bitches. You know.
This has great appeal for the feeble minded because dualism is the SIMPLEST
FORM OF COMPLEXITY. Which is about all that most of the ancients could handle.
They were not educated at all and lived in a world of vibrant superstition.
Not unlike Christian Identity, and some of the more primitive Protestant sects
which still exist today.
But Jews don't believe in Satan or Hell. They do believe in afterlife which
rewards the good and punishes the bad. And when Jews die, they all move to
Beverly Hills and get to hang with Sammy Davis Jr..
