Leave them on the computer unsupervised, but not on the internet. Password the software you use to log onto your ISP. Log off when you're not in the room. That way they could play games or read the encyclopedia on your hard drive while you took bathroom breaks, or cooked or read a book or whatever. It's a lot easier to maintain control of your hard drive than it is of the internet.
