Newsmax-Inside Cover Thursday August 24, 2000; 5:01 PM EDT Stunner: Al Gore Accepts Judicial Watch Debate Invite Vice President Al Gore has accepted an invitation to debate Texas Governor George W. Bush in a forum sponsored by Judicial Watch, the Washington, D.C. based public interest lawfirm that has filed more than 50 lawsuits against the Clinton-Gore administration in recent years. Gov. Bush has yet to say whether he will participate in the event. The debate will also be open to Green party candidate Ralph Nader and Reform party candidate Pat Buchanan, should they decide to attend. "The debate will be about ethics in government," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told NewsMax.com late Thursday. "We hope George W. Bush will be as gracious as Al Gore in accepting." Gore's acceptance of the debate proposal is particularly stunning in light of Judicial Watch's contentious relationship with the White House. The legal watchdog group has pursued Clinton-Gore administration scandals such as Filegate, Chinagate and E-mailgate in civil court and is regarded by many as home to some of the administration's harshest critics. Judicial Watch broke the Chinagate scandal with its 1996 deposition of Democratic National Committee money man John Huang. Last fall, President Clinton singled out Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman for personal attack during a Rose Garden press conference. But in a press release issued Thursday afternoon, Klayman said, "The vice president will be treated with respect and dignity." Klayman was notified of Gore's acceptance by letter on Tuesday. "We accept your invitation to debate Governor Bush at a mutually convenient time," Gore campaign director of scheduling Lisa Berg wrote. "We hope Governor Bush will agree that the American people should have an opportunity to hear and compare views on such important issues as the economy, health care, education, Social Security and Medicare, international affairs and a range of other issues." Berg did not mention "ethics in government", the ostensible focus of the debate, as a possible debate topic in her letter to Judicial Watch. Judicial Watch set a date of October 20 for the debate, which would be held in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C. ================================================================= Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh, YHVH, TZEVAOT FROM THE DESK OF: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> *Mike Spitzer* <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ~~~~~~~~ <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The Best Way To Destroy Enemies Is To Change Them To Friends Shalom, A Salaam Aleikum, and to all, A Good Day. ================================================================= <A HREF="http://www.ctrl.org/">www.ctrl.org</A> DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER ========== CTRL is a discussion & informational exchange list.
