I am one who can attest to this fact personally, except that I never took
on the attributes of the lower classes, but observed them, and even
experienced the fury.
I was a "bussed" student from one area of town predominantly white to an
area that was more predominantly black. The ratio, as a matter of fact,
was 100% black at the school, before the bussing. After the bussing,
reduced the ratio to a mere 80%.
What did I learn from the 80% of black students at that school? I learned
con games; racism to the max; stabbing; extortion; robbery; hate; and
rape... (this is called "experiencing the fury", for I personally
experienced this from the predominance of the school... or it was
attempted).
and I also learned that the teachers always turned their heads and refused
to "see" what was going on, because it was better that they "don't get
involved in student issues" during the initialization of the program.
What did I learn in the all-white private school?
No violent actions, just racism....
THIS was in 1969.
WHAT have we learned in 32+ years of this crap?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!
The problem survives because it wants to survive,
and because the gov 't wants it to survive.
But please don't blame the teachers...
and please don't blame the entertainment industry.
Blame the PARENTS WHO CHOOSE to raise their child in hostile environments
and do nothing to correct it. As a matter of fact, many promote it, with
the philosophy that "THIS" is what you need to survive.
NOT SO!!!
Ignorance, breeds ignorance; and so it continues...
But, you're right about one thing, in this country, ANYONE who does not
want to live in the ghetto or be known as from the ghetto has the
opportunity to rise above and escape. The problem is, too many see it as
an EFFORT... and the word 'work' is a four-letter word to some.
I see it everyday that I show up for work and have to do the work of three
people who didn't do their job before me. I'm tired of it...
but people don't change, unless they want to. I've tried leaving the work
and not cleaning up after these who find 'work' offensive...
(they never have a problem picking up their pay check, tho')
but, the job only gets bigger the next day. So, I continue to 'clean up'
after the whiners and complainers, who would get a lot of work done, if
they'd just focus their energy on their job, and not on complaining about
what they have to do to earn a pay check.
Did I send my children on to a private school...? No, I didn't do what my
parents did by doing that to me, which was AVOIDING the problem. I
homeschooled, and taught my children real values, and real education,
myself, but kept them active with their constituents in the community. They
are now both successful and have good jobs, and oh yes, the most important
factor... their friendships are very diverse, from black to asian to
jewish and others.
Am I a racist?
Absolutely not.
But I certainly could be,
just from experience,
if I wanted to be.
