As a special guest, FAIR will have Steve Wilson and Jane Akre, two award-winning reporters who sued FOX Television after a Tampa affiliate pressured them to broadcast a news report. The guests are presented courtesy of The Great Boycott, an organization formed to protest the power, money and influence of the international chemical lobby. During their investigation, Wilson and Akre uncovered how a large share of America’s milk supply has quietly become adulterated with the effects of a synthetic hormone (bovine growth hormone, or BGH) secretly injected into cows… and how pressure from the hormone maker Monsanto led Fox TV to fire both reporters and sweep under the rug much of what they discovered but were never allowed to broadcast. Though legal since approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1993, the artificial hormone commonly known as BGH has been linked to cancer and is banned throughout Europe and unapproved in several other countries because of human health concerns. After a five-week trial and six hours of deliberation which ended August 18, 2000, a Florida state court jury unanimously determined that Fox "acted intentionally and deliberately to falsify or distort the plaintiffs' news reporting on BGH." In that decision, the jury also found that Jane's threat to blow the whistle on Fox's misconduct to the FCC was the sole reason for the termination... and the jury awarded awarded $425,000 in damages which makes her eligible to apply for reimbursement for all court costs, expenses and legal fees. The journalists, who happen to be married to each other, have not been offered full-time work in the mainstream media since their experience at Fox and in court. The suit and information about use of the hormone in dairy cattle are presented in full detail at a special Internet web site. The site can be viewed at: http://www.foxBGHsuit.com Introducing them will be members of The Great Boycott, who will present information about their organization, their current agenda in Los Angeles (which includes the opposition of water fluoridation in the Los Angeles area) and a special report of information uncovered by reporter Barbara Keeler of The Whole Life Times and Robert Sterling of Konformist.com, on the monetary links between controversial 20/20 journalist John Stossel and the chemical lobby. The Great Boycott targets the worldleading producers of pesticides, genetically engineered foods, and toxic wastes: Monsanto, Du Pont, Dow, Novartis, Imperial Chemical Industries, Rhone Poulenc, Bayer, and Hoechst.
