Democracy and capitalism are two entirely different, and diametrically
opposed, ways of life. Capitalism is inherently undemocratic. In a
democracy, all people participitate in decision making. In capitalism, the
vast overwhelming majority of the decisions that impact the everday life
of most people is made by the boards of directors of the major
corporations. These boards are not representitive of people as a whole.
The represent only the stock holders. The vast overwhelming majority of
stock is held by a handful of people. This is not democracy. This is
plutocracy. One dollar, one vote.
Capitalism must also be distinguished from free enterprise. In free
enterprise, the state is not involved in any way. As soon as the state
gets involved, enterprise is no longer free.
