Reagan-Bush appointees to the U.S. Supreme Court appear poised to enforce
legal technicalities to guarantee the election of Texas Gov. George W.
Bush.

The Reagan-Bush appointees telegraphed their sentiment during oral
arguments on Friday, as Vice President Al Gore pressed ahead with a
Florida court case to permit recounts that could wipe out Bush's 537-vote
lead.

The Republican majority on the U.S. Supreme Court suggested that it was
inclined to pump Bush's lead back up by throwing out votes that Gore has
gained from other recounts.
