Chinese Bamboo

Chinese farmers raise an interesting variety of bamboo.
One day they plant and fertilize the bamboo. They water it
properly.
They water it all spring and summer. No bamboo breaks through
the soil.
The next year, they water their fields. No bamboo comes up.
The next year and the next year, they water it still.
Finally, the fifth year, bamboo shoots break through the
topsoil.
In a period of 6 weeks, the Chinese Bamboo grows 90 feet
tall.
90 feet of growth in only 6 weeks!
Why? How?
For 5 years, the Chinese Bamboo was developing a root
structure capable of supporting and sustaining a 90-foot
plant.
For 5 years, the Chinese Bamboo was securing its foundations.
For 5 years, the Chinese Bamboo was preparing to break
through... and rise.
Suppose the farmers had deserted the fields after 1 year
because no bamboo had broken through.
Suppose the farmers had quit after 2 years because they
believed that "the crop was a failure."
Suppose they walked away after 3 years or 4 years because
their "more practical" neighbors were able to grow weeds year
after year with little effort.
Chinese Bamboo takes care and cultivation to raise.
It takes a long-view to begin. And faith and endurance to see
it through.
The Libertarian Movement may be like Chinese Bamboo.
Some sprouts are just beginning to see sunlight.
Others may break through soon.
We must water and nurture them.
We must plant more and more and more libertarian seeds... so
that when the massive, swift growth happens... it happens
everywhere in America.
