Subject:
               The Iron Law of Oligarchy

In a certain sense, the 5-4 decision of the of the US Supreme Court,
which stopped the vote count in Florida thereby handing the presidency
to the front-man W, may be viewed as another classic example of The
Iron Law of Oligarchy.

This Iron Law, formulated at the start of the 20th century by the
German sociologist Robert Michels, states that every organization is
operated for the benefit of those who control the organization. [Robert
Michels, _Political Parties: A Sociological Study of Oligarchical
Tendencies of Modern Democracy_, The Free Press, New York (1966), pp
342-356].
