-Caveat Lector- With Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001 4:32 p.m. EST Top Judiciary Dem Leahy Defends White House Trashing Ranking Senate Judiciary Committee Democrat Patrick Leahy said Thursday that White House vandalism by departing Clinton aides doesn't warrant investigation, because the perpetrators were merely following the example set by the previous Bush administration. "You know, the same issue came up when former President Bush left," Leahy told WKDR Burlington, Vt. radio host Mark Johnson. "They found on some of the furniture in the White House, they had laminated [former] President Bush's photograph onto it when the Clinton people came in," said Leahy, adding that the new administration had to spend "a great deal of money" to undo the damage. Leahy also charged that aides to the current president's father had "moved a number of things" and "changed a number of the computers around so that it would take them a long time to have them reconfigured." "I thought it was wrong when the Bush people did it," said the Vermont senator. "I think it's wrong when the Clinton people did it." Even if true, the apparently new charges of Bush White House vandalism, at least as described by Leahy, don't rise to the level of what allegedly transpired last Saturday, when telephone and computer cables were cut, desks were overturned, trash was dumped everywhere, and White House hallways weresprayed with obscene graffiti. Still, Leahy said he hoped there would be no investigation into the Inauguration Day destruction. "We didn't go investigating the Bush people for doing it and I just think that President George W. Bush is going to take the same position President Clinton did - where the Clinton people did not go after his father's aides for doing the things they did." Leahy did criticize Saturday's White House vandalism as "somewhat tasteless." ================================================================= Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh, YHVH, TZEVAOT FROM THE DESK OF: *Michael Spitzer* <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Best Way To Destroy Enemies Is To Change Them To Friends ================================================================= <A HREF="http://www.ctrl.org/">www.ctrl.org</A> DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER ========== CTRL is a discussion & informational exchange list.
