-Caveat Lector- Associated Press Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 Ronnie Spector: Police Pointed Guns NEW YORK (AP) - Singer Ronnie Spector said several plainclothes police officers pointed guns at her and her family and roughed up her husband last month after stopping her car. The officers went away when they learned Spector, lead member of the 1960s group the Ronettes, was in the car, she said. "I think if it wasn't me, they would have killed us all," Spector said at a news conference Friday. "If you're not a celebrity then you're dead. That's the sad part of the whole thing." Spector said she, her husband-manager, Jonathan Greenfield, and her two teen-age sons were stopped in Harlem by three men who jumped out of a rust-colored sedan and pointed guns at them but didn't identify themselves. Spector said she thought they were being carjacked and told her husband to flee. When he finally pulled over, one of the men opened Greenfield's door, punched him in the mouth and pulled him out, Spector said. Only then was the couple told their car matched the description of a car used in an earlier homicide, the couple said. Greenfield reported the incident to police, who turned the complaint over to the Civilian Complaint Review Board. CCRB officials declined to comment.
