President Bush, in asking Congress for $310.5 billion for defense in fiscal
year 2002, a "reasonable" 4 percent increase over this year's allocation, has
already acknowledged that it's going to take more than throwing money at the
problems to repair eight years of neglect. >>

This stuff is just stupid. Any GI who runs around blaming Clinton for his
low morale and recruiting and retention shortfalls just hasn't been in the
military long enough or his IQ is so low, he won't be much of an asset if
this nation ever gets into trouble. My husband is retired military, I
worked for them and my children were both military brats right through
heading for college. We retired prior to Clinton, and the morale was lower
then than it is now. The recruiting and retention shortfalls began way back
then and were and are caused by the weird parallel logic that our military
leaders and congress seem to have been using ever since the GI bill did a
good turn for the military members. They retaliated by giving all the
available funds to Boeing and a few other corporations for weapons
development. Clinton at least got excused from the military; he didn't join
the multi-million-dollar hotrod club that lets a select group fly jets on
weekends, and then go awol from even that for over a year. Since you're
listening to the troops, take the above as my husband's comment, since I'm
just quoting him. Prudy
