Bill,
I hope you are right and it is just the journalism crowd's
lack of interest in accuracy but I heard it mentioned on TV
recently and they were trying to say it was "Hoof & Mouth"
here and "Foot & Mouth" in England was why but that does not
make much sense as I know the British have noticed that
only animals with cloven hooves get this. I wonder if we
have become accustomed to the phrase "putting one's foot IN
one's mouth" that they are some how thinking "foot IN mouth
disease" like in a cartoon with the animals actually
inserting their feet (hooves) into their mouths. But the
disease attacks those two places and is not like the cartoon
at all. I just hope they are not trying to get us
accustomed to the idea of things with feet also getting it,
like humans, as it mutates or is modified in some way. In
any event, this has the potential for a real disaster. With
air travel so common, I cannot imagine it can be stopped and
will soon be in every country where people are going in and
out of the country. Yet another reason to become a
vegetarian, I suppose.
