WITHOUT THE PHONY DRUG WAR WE COULD AFFORD A SPACE PROGRAM!!

As someone who kept himself indentured to Dr. Gerarl O'Neill for the ten
years before his tragic and untimely death, I would like to say that you
and Tim Leary were on the right track. SMILE stood for SPACE MIGRATION,
INTELLIGENCE INCREASE, and LIFE EXTENSION. It is an acronym for the big
ideas of the day.

Gerard always said Tim Leary was a great scientist. Gerard was the most
perfect human I ever knew. He would spend hours with me answering my
questions until I did not have any more!! Gerard's prize student was
Eric Drexler who may outshine Dr. O'Neill. But the shadows these two men
cast on human affairs are unrivaled in our time.

I made myself the assistant of Dr. Carol Rosin who Dr. O"Neill held in
the highest esteem who was someone who was treated mush as Tim Leary was
treated as an outcast by the main stream. Dr. Rosin was the top
assistant of Dr. Warner Von Braun during the last years of his active
life.

When Von Braun read Dr. O'Neill's first published article on space
colonization in PHYSICS TODAY he asked Dr. Carol Rosin to arrange a
meeting with Dr. O'Neill. He said, Bring this man to me.

So in this first and only meeting where the baton was passed from one
master to another Von Braun greeted O'Neill and said, My work is now your
work to finish. You are my successor.

Von Braun was like Albert Einstein. He did not need many words to make
himself understood.

During this ten years I referred to the SPACE STUDIES INSTITUTE as the
absolute brain center of society. In addition to Gerard there was
Freeman Dyson, Richard Feynman and Buckmiester Fuller and many others.
Once there was CAMELOT and then the monopolists came and snatched all the
goodies off the table.

I think this PHYSICS TODAY article by Gerard came out in the summer of
1972. If someone could post that they would help a great many to
understand a great deal more about human potentials.

I think the discussion on this site is the best on the web.
