Yes, and it's getting a little ridiculous...

I've mentioned here before that it used to be quite common to see
rainbow-striped flags sold in kite retail outlets, as the flags were a
favorite to attach to lines of kites that had a strong enough pull to
support it...there was no political or social meaning to it, it was
popular because it was colorful...

Just 5 or so years ago, you'd find these flags sold by most kite
retailers (along with other types of banners and flags), and indeed one
of the 'old timers' where I fly has one of these flags...

But he no longer flies it because of the current connotations...and one
rarely finds these flags sold by kite retailers any more.

This 'old timer' with the rainbow flag also flies a huge flowform -- 18
feet by 23 feet -- that has multicolored stripes. He's flown this kite
for over a decade. Two other guys have kites just like it, all of them
multicolored striped. Nothing special is meant by the 'rainbow' colors,
that is the standard kite...if you want it different, you pay more money
(and these things run $1500+)...

Two years ago, in June -- gay pride month -- two obviously gay men
stopped and commented on the kites...actually one was taciturn, the other
was a almost a cliche of a flaming queen and practically swooned in
rapture over the kites...and declared them just the thing for Gay Pride
Month, since they were rainbow colored...

Two weeks ago I was flying my kites at this park...I had a beach umbrella
set up to protect myself from the sun...it was multicolored striped --
from what I've seen, almost ALL beach umbrellas are multicolored, either
striped or floral or some other design...

One of the other flyers (a newbie who started flying last year) came over
and commented on the umbrella...how nice it was...especially that it was
RAINBOW colored...

It was the way that he stressed the word 'rainbow' that made me suspect
that he meant something more than an artistic appraisal...perhaps my face
betrayed that fact, because he then stuttered and hemmed and hawed and
added "Well, it matches all your kites..."...which was sort of a "Duh!"
statement, since I have many kites in all different colors...

So it seems one can't even put up a beach umbrella for some shade without
a political/social comment being made (or suspected of being made)...
