Many questions have come in and I would like to answer them in one e-mail. My base of operations is in [city in USA], where I am doing research both at the U of # and the U of # hospital. I have never had any profile there. I am returning there tonight after an extended visit here with my family in S. I have been using my laptop which I simply plug into their telephone line. Someone on the list asked for my telephone number and I apologize for not giving it. My family here is afraid to receive telephone calls, which are monitored by Rajoub and friends. Someone asked me about Dr. L.'s background. He is a medical doctor whom I have lost touch with. His last residence was in Jaffa. Writing from a laptop computer, I have no fear of expressing dissent to the PA. I was somewhat surprised by some of the comments on line, however. There is a difference between the Israeli and the PA occupation. The Israelis whom I met with over the years have been diverse. Some have been insenstive to our needs, and some have not been. On the other hand, the Arafat/Rajoub regime is more than simply "corrupt". It is exlcusively interested in setting up a dictatorship in which Palestinian citizens will have no civil liberities whatsover. The saddest thing is what is going on in the UNRWA camps. This was the opportunity for an autonomous Palestinian entity to absorb the camps, while en route to independence. Instead, the PA has left our people in the muck of the camps, under the specious promise and premise of the "right of return". It is a truly amazing thing to witness the officials at the UNRWA medical clinic in Shuafat tell patients in line that they do not have enough medical supplies and that the people will get the proper medical attention...only when they go home to their homes from 1948. I was also surprised by the response of someone named Samy. He asks if I am loyal to the Palestinian cause. I would ask him the same thing. Imposing a PLO dictatorship on our people has only increased the oppression of our people. Is that Samy's vision of a free and independent Palestinian people? My next e-mails will emanate from [city in USA] in a few days.
