1. WASHINGTON UPDATE

A. HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVISTS IGNORED THE POOR TO PUSH THEIR AGENDA AND GUT THE
FAITH-BASED INITIATIVE!

TVC is claiming victory for Thursday's House passage of the Community
Solutions Act (H.R. 7) President Bush's Faith-Based Initiative. The Act was
nearly hijacked by homosexual activists and their allies in Congress who
attempted to destroy the President's plan. The vote was 233-198.

The Community Solutions Act will work to end anti-religious discrimination
in federal funding against faith-based organizations involved in helping
the poor and needy in our communities. The Act will allow religious groups
to compete for federal grant money on an equal basis with secular
organizations involved in meeting the needs of low-income families, drug
addicts, the mentally ill, and women in crisis.

Homosexuals attempted to amend the Act to turn it into a "special rights
for homosexuals" bill. Using the force of law, homosexuals want to prohibit
faith-based groups from setting their own hiring standards. Had the
militant homosexuals been successful, their amendment would have FORCED
religious groups to violate their own religious beliefs by requiring them
to hire individuals who do not share the group's faith or moral values. The
1964 Civil Rights Act specifically exempts religious groups from federal
employment discrimination statutes. The law recognizes that religious
groups have the constitutional right to set their own hiring standards.

"I am outraged that homosexuals are willing to destroy an effort to help
low-income families," said Andrea Lafferty, Executive Director of the
Traditional Values Coalition. "This shows their true colors. They don't
care about the plight of the homeless or those in poverty. It is also clear
that they don't care about the religious beliefs of millions of Americans
who spend their lives helping the less fortunate in our society. They only
care about getting special rights for themselves and their sexual
behavior."

The Community Solutions Act is about helping people. When it reaches the
Senate we hope they will not allow this compassionate legislation to be
hijacked by homosexuals and converted into a homosexual special rights law!
This is clearly an example of anti-religious bigotry!

B. HOUSE/SENATE BEGIN DEBATE ON BUSH EDUCATION BILL

The House and Senate conference committee began meeting on Thursday to work
out differences between the House version of the education bill versus the
Senate version. The education bills, H.R. 1 and S. 1, both contain
dangerous hate crime language in them that threaten religious freedom and
promote homosexuality in the public schools.

This legislation will reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education
Act (ESEA) and expand upon it. Section 4124 of S1, "Hate Crimes Prevention"
calls for the creation of materials and training materials ostensibly
designed to reduce hatred in public schools. In reality, the legislation is
designed to promote homosexuality and to silence all principled opposition
to homosexual recruitment programs in schools. It will criminalize speech
against homosexuality and promote a climate of anti-Christian bigotry.

Here is a list of the legislators who will be on the joint House-Senate
conference committee to work out differences between the House and Senate
versions. The conferees are: Senate conferees: Senators Kennedy, Dodd,
Harkin, Mikulski, Jeffords, Bingaman, Wellstone, Murray, Reed, Edwards,
Clinton, Lieberman, Bayh; Senators Gregg, Frist, Enzi, Hutchinson, Warner,
Bond, Roberts, Collins, Sessions, DeWine, Allard, Ensign. House conferees:
Reps. Boehner, Petri, Roukema, McKeon, Castle, Hilleary, Graham, Isakson;
Reps. Miller, Kildee, Owens, Andrews, Mink, Roemer.

Many of the Senators on this committee are ultra-liberals who will do
whatever they can to expand the role of the federal government in education
and to promote homosexuality in education programs.

Please sign our petition to Congress urging them to drop any hate crimes
language in this legislation. In addition, this bill should have language
added that specifically protects the religious freedom of children whose
religious beliefs view homosexuality as a sin. To sign this petition, go
to:

http://www.conservativepetitions.com/petition.html?name=S_1_hate_crimes.

C. CHILDREN'S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM ON AGENDA

Pro-family groups including TVC just signed a congratulatory letter to HHS
Secretary Tommy Thompson over his decision to include unborn children in
the State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP). This decision will
provide pre-natal care for low-income women. The letter noted: "Years of
research have demonstrated that the health of children is greatly
determined by the quality of prenatal care their mothers get during
pregnancy. Your decision to include coverage for low-income children before
birth is a logical extension of the S-CHIP program and works toward the
goal of compassionate conservatism emphasized by President Bush."

Kate Michelman, president of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights
Action League, said this new policy seems to be an attempt to establish the
fetus as a person under the law, "leading to the criminalization of all
abortions." Michelman and other pro-abortionists are unwilling to even
support prenatal care for unborn babies because it recognizes that these
are babies, not blobs of tissue to be killed on demand.

D. SENATOR SCHUMER SCHEDULES NEW HEARING ON JUDGES

The Subcommittee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight
and the Courts will be holding another hearing on July 24. The hearing,
conducted by liberal New York Senator Chuck Schumer is designed to provide
justification for opposing conservatives to judicial posts. Schumer and his
allies are planning on blocking every Bush nominee who believes in judicial
restraint and constitutional government. For regular updates on this issue,
access the Free Congress' web site:

http://www.judicialselection.org/.

E. HUMAN CLONING BAN ACT NEEDS SUPPORT

Both embryonic stem cell research and human cloning are under currently
being debated in Congress. Congressman Dave Weldon (R-FL) along with a
medical doctor has introduced the Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2001
(H.R. 2505). This legislation will prohibit human cloning and provide for a
million dollar fine and 10 years in prison for violating this law. For more
insights into the cloning issue, go to:

 www.scienceministries.org.

F. STEM CELL RESEARCH STILL UNDER DEBATE

On Wednesday, a House Committee heard from experts on stem cell research
urging that the government not fund embryonic stem cell research. Rep. Dave
Weldon told his colleagues it is unproven whether or not embryos provide
better stem cells than adult cells for research purposes. Dr. David
Prentice, a professor of Life Sciences at Indiana State University
explained why adult stem cells show promise in finding cures for various
diseases. Also in attendance was Marlene Strege, mother of the first
adopted embryo, Hannah Strege. She has established an embryo adoption
program called Snowflakes that encourages infertile couples to "adopt"
embryos for implantation.

The Christian Medical and Dental Associations has recently published a
number of essays on stem cell research and cloning. To learn more about
these controversial issues and what they mean to Christians, go to:

G. SENATORS URGE INVESTIGATION OF MISUSE OF AIDS FUNDING

Senators Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Max Baucus (D-MT) have recently sent a
letter of concern to Miss Janet Rehnquist, Inspector General Designate with
the Department of Health and Human Services. The letter asks that Miss
Rehnquist begin an investigation into the misuse of AIDS dollars by
organizations receiving federal tax dollars. The Senators point out that
recent news accounts about the misuse of Ryan White CARE Act money
demonstrates the need for such an investigation. According to these
Senators, "The host of stories highlighting misuse of Ryan White CARE Act
Funds is certainly discouraging because it means that not only are
taxpayers' dollars wasted but also thousands of individuals suffering from
HIV/AIDS are being denied the care and assistance that they need-and that
Congress intended to provide them."

Encourage your Congressmen to join with Grassley and Baucus in asking for a
thorough investigation into the AIDS funding ripoff.

Last month TVC called upon the Bush Administration to open an investigation
into the flagrant misuse of tax dollars by homosexual activist groups that
have managed to obtain AIDS grant money. We published our findings in a
special report and are distributing it to key lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

H. JUSTICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES HUMAN TRAFFICKING REGULATION GUIDELINES
Attorney General John Ashcroft has just announced federal guidelines on
dealing with victims of human trafficking. The guidelines will help law
enforcement officers identify victims of human trafficking and help them
more effectively prosecute those who deal in human suffering. "The toll in
human suffering caused by human trafficking and forced labor is enormous,"
said Ashcroft. "The cooperative efforts of federal agencies and law
enforcement officials will help provide victims with the tols and services
needed to punish traffickers to the fullest extent of the law." (Human
trafficking is the modern-day equivalent of slavery and many nations still
practice it. Nations like Sudan and Burma routinely enslave
populations-many of them Christians. South Korea has failed to crack down
on the traffic in young women who are sent to the United States as
prostitutes.)

I. CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM IN LIMBO

In what has been mistakenly called "campaign finance reform," the House
last week voted on the Shays-Meehan campaign reform bill. The vote was
actually on establishing rules of the debate. Democrats feared that this
legislation would hamper their ability to raise money, so they voted
against the debate rules. This sends the legislation back to a committee
for more discussion. In the Senate, Republicans and Democrats passed the
McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill.

Both bills pose serious threats to freedom of speech for organizations like
TVC. If passed, this legislation would cut off an organization's ability to
criticize or applaud candidates 60 days before an election. It imposes 300
new rules and regulations on election campaigning. It also intrusive. It
would require that as few as 10 people who pooled their resources to print
pamphlets on a political candidate would have to register their activities
with the Federal Election Commission. This legislation does not reform
campaign finance abuses, it stifles the ability of groups like TVC to
express their views on candidates!

J. CO-SPONSORS NEEDED FOR NATIONAL DAY OF RECONCILIATION

Tom DeLay (R-TX), the House Majority Whip has introduced H.Con.Res. 184
calling for a National Day of Reconciliation. This resolution needs more
co-sponsors. If passed, the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S.
Senate will meet "to humbly seek the blessings of Providence for
forgiveness, reconciliation, unity, and charity for all people of the
United States, thereby assisting the Nation to realize its potential as the
champion of hope, the vindicator of the defenseless, and the guardian of
freedom."

ACTION ITEM: Please call your Congressman and urge him or her to co-sponsor
H.Con.Res. 184.

2. NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN TARGETS HERMAPHRODITES FOR POLITICAL
EXPLOITATION

The National Organization for Women has joined forces with activist
transgender and hermaphrodite groups to fight for the "right" of
hermaphrodite children to avoid having surgery to correct their malformed
sex organs. A hermaphrodite has both male and female characteristics.
Surgery is used to assign the correct "sex" to the child.

NOW has partnered with GenderPac, headed by a male-to-female transgender
named Riki Wilchins and the Intersex Society of North America (ISNA).
Wilchins and ISNA believe that there are more than two sexes and that
hermaphrodites are simply another sex. Wilchins has referred to "male" and
"female" as being "narrow, outdated, binary gender stereotypes" that must
be rejected. The goal is to deconstruct all concepts of male and female in
an effort to remold our culture into a society where male and female
distinctions are blurred-and every kind of sexual activity is permissible.

Rev. Sheldon's July 17 commentary on this topic sheds more light on this
perverted cultural trend. To read his commentary, go to:

http://www.traditionalvalues.org/oeNOWHermaphrodite.html.

3. UPDATE ON JEFFREY CURLEY WRONGFUL-DEATH LAWSUIT AGAINST NAMBLA

On Tuesday in Cambridge Massachusetts, Rev. Lou Sheldon met at length with
Robert Curley, father of slain 10-year-old boy Jeffrey Curley. Traditional
Values Coalition has been offering Robert and Barbara Curley emotional,
spiritual and financial support in their Law suit against NAMBLA (The North
American Man Boy Love Association).

The Curley's are suing NAMBLA after one of its members, a homosexual named
Charles Jaynes and his homosexual lover, Salvatore Sicari tortured, raped,
and killed their son Jeffrey. According to Mr. Curley, his son Jeffrey put
up a horrific fight against these two homosexuals. One of them then had sex
with the boy after he was dead!

Mr. Curley expressed outrage to Rev. Sheldon that his own Senator, Ted
Kennedy, supports homosexual activism and has never spoken one word of
consolation to him for the death of his son at the hands of two
homosexuals. "They have placards and streets named after homosexuals around
here who have died of AIDS, yet there is not even a mention of Jeffrey's
name anywhere. In the fight of good vs. evil, Jeffrey died in the line of
duty," said Robert Curley.

NAMBLA is being represented by lawyers from the ACLU who asked Judge George
O'Toole (Federal District Judge for the first District of Massachusetts)
to:

1. Dismiss the case on the jurisdictional grounds.

2. To institute a "gag order" barring attorneys and affiliates of the case
from speaking to the press. This motion should make the ACLU win the
"Hypocrite of the Year" award. The entire case for the ACLU in defending
NAMBLA has been that they (NAMBLA)have the right of "free speech" that
allows them to produce volumes on how to rape children. Yet they themselves
are asking for "free speech" to be denied in this case to protect their own
interest.

3. To suppress the contents of a "pedophile training manual" produced by
NAMBLA from the case. The manual teaches pedophiles how to molest children
and get away with it. It evens shows them how to flee the country to avoid
prosecution. The ACLU doesn't want the public to learn about this child
molestation manual.

Tradition Values Coalition has joined forces with Larry Frisoli, a
prominent Boston Attorney in fighting against the tide of sexual perversion
and sin promoted by militant homosexuals and NAMBLA. It is our hope that
this litigation will destroy NAMBLA and any other groups that advocate the
rape of young boys like Jeffrey Curley. Please keep the Curley family in
your prayers.

4. UNITED WAY FORCES BOY SCOUTS TO COMPROMISE ON HOMOSEXUALITY

A report in the Miami Herald on July 18, indicates that the United Way has
pressured the Dade County Boy Scouts to give up public funding, stop
recruiting at public schools, and develop a training program to help its
leaders deal "more sensitively with gay youth." The Scouts will begin
working with Miami's Project Yes, a pro-homosexual group that "educates
about the needs of gay youth." The Boy Scouts organization in Broward
County is also in negotiations with homosexual groups "about a similar
compromise." To read more on this, go to:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/frame/direct.aspSITE=www.miami.com/herald/cont
ent/news/local/dade/digdocs/025147.htm

TAKE ACTION: Contact your local United Way organization to see if they are
still helping fund the Boy Scouts-or if they have a pro-homosexual agenda.
If they're supporting homosexuals, let them know you will stop giving to
United Way campaigns and will donate directly to the Boy Scouts.

5. FRENCH COURT RULES ON "RIGHT NOT TO BE BORN"

Earlier this week, France's highest court of appeals ruled that disabled
children are entitled to compensation if their mothers were not provide the
chance to abort them. Three families with deformed children argued that if
doctors had detected abnormalities in their children, they would have
aborted them. The court upheld a decision involving a mentally retarded boy
who was awarded damages last year because he had not been aborted. The
Collective to Stop Discrimination against the Disabled was outraged by this
decision: "This is a real act of phobia. Now parents are going to be
attacked and seen as irresponsible because they gave birth to a handicapped
child." Yves Richard, a lawyer representing the medical profession noted:
"The ruling means that the handicapped have no place in our society." -

---------------------------------------------------

6. JOSEPH SOBRAN DESCRIBES THE STALINIST ROOTS OF THE ACLU

Columnist Joseph Sobran has just written an insightful column on the
Stalinist beginnings of the ACLU-and criticized it for its continued
attacks against the Boy Scouts while promoting the homosexual agenda.
Sobran writes: "The American Civil Liberties Union has been in business so
long that it's a miracle that we have any civil liberties left....the ACLU
has always been devoted to the destruction of the Constitution." To read
his entire column, go to:

http://www.sobran.com/columns/010628.shtml.

7. HOMOSEXUALS SCHEDULE "HUMAN DOG SHOW" IN MICHIGAN

American Family Association of Michigan leader Gary Glenn has called upon
Michigan law enforcement officials to carefully monitor this weekend's
homosexual "Wildlife Refuge 2001" event. Glenn expects illegal sex acts to
take place at this event. The homosexual male-only event is a sex orgy that
includes a sadomasochistic (S&M) "human dog show." Men will be dressed as
dogs to serve their masters. One homosexual S&M site describes itself as a
resource for the "human dog training community" and touts its site as "The
Website for Gay Male Masters/Trainers and Their DogBoys/Pups." This
particular web site sells human doggie equipment for sale and shows men
dressed as dogs sitting in cages. This is another example of how perverted
the homosexual movement is and why we must continue to fight against
homosexuals being allowed to indoctrinate our children in public schools.
S&M behavior and worse are part of the lifestyle of homosexuals.

8. BARNA RESEARCH FINDS MOST PROTESTANTS DON'T WITNESS

Charisma magazine has reported the findings of the Barna Research Group
(BRG) on the witnessing habits of Christians in various denominations.
George Barna discovered that only one out of three adults in Protestant
churches witnessed to a nonbeliever last year. He discovered that
Pentecostal, Assemblies of God, and Mormons were the most active in
religious endeavors. When it came to Bible reading, Pentecostals at 75%
were the most active. The least active Bible readers were Catholics,
Episcopalians, and Lutherans. Mormons were more likely to read the Bible
weekly than Protestants overall. To read more about this, go to:

http://www.charismanews.com/news.cgi?a=627&t=news.html.
