Academically
diligent study of the Bible would be far more reprehensible to the folk who are
pushing this agenda than no Bible study at all. I have far more in common with
Hindus and Buddhists than fundamentalist Xtians though technically we’re
reading from the same book. The fundies are far more interested in pushing
their neo-nazi agenda than theology. “No Jimmy, Jesus did not hate Black people”.
Thanks for
the post. It reminded me to renew my ACLU membership.

Terrebonne To Consider Bible Study In Schools Supporters say that special
classes designed to study the bible as historical literature are popular in
other school districts, and insist that they do not violate the separation of
church and state.
Now, the Terrebonne Parish School Board is scheduled to vote Tuesday night on
a plan to look into the feasibility of bible study in classrooms as early as
next school year.
"The recommendation is to allow staff to study, review the possibility of
implementing a bible-study class in high schools," assistant school
district
Superintendent Philip Martin said. "We'll be making very certain that
whatever we do is legal, and that we're on sound legal standings. ..."
Supporters say that the course would resemble an English class more than a
Sunday school class, but some question the board's timing.
The board soon could shrink from 15 members to nine. Voters, including
parents, will ultimately decide who stays and who goes.
The American Civil Liberties Union says that the idea of teaching the bible
as history is a cruel joke on students, but it also says that it will wait to
see how the School Board votes before possibly taking action against the
bible study idea.
