Last night I saw a report of a girl who is going ahead with her wedding
this weekend, even though her stepfather died on one of the hijacked
planes.
Originally only her mother was going to fly to LA for the wedding, as
they only had enough money for one ticket; but the mother scrimped and
saved and worked overtime so that her husband could also attend the
wedding. She succeeded in saving enough for another plane ticket, albeit
on another flight.
The mother's flight left before the stepfather's, but involved a layover
in Chicago. The mother had no idea what had happened until she got a
call from her daughter when she had landed in Chicago, and found out that
her husband's plane had been hijacked and crashed into the WTC.
The daughter wanted to cancel the wedding, but the mother insisted that
they hold it, saying that that was what the stepfather would have wanted.
Both the daughter and her mother were very calm in relating this story;
one could say that they were 'cold pricks'....the rest of us recognize
that people deal with grief in different ways...
