This was mentioned again this morning on another news show...
It's not nonsense...the FAA reported the hijackings to the Pentagon
shortly after 9am, after the 2nd plane hit the WTC; at 9:15 they reported
another hijacked plane was heading towards Washington. Yet the fighter
planes didn't scramble until 9:27, and by the time they got to D.C., it
was too late.
The question that is being asked is why the delay, and how can the
procedure to scramble the fighters be tightened up?

It's been SOP since WWII -- fighters are supposed to be scrambled to
shoot down any suspicious aircraft entering the no-fly zone areas of D.C.
That includes suspiciously acting civilian airlines.
