Participants in the conference call said Sharon had expressed concern that the United States would exclude Palestinian terror from its planned war on terrorism. "We cannot permit ourself to distinguish between terror against Israel and terror against the rest of the world," they quoted Sharon as saying. "[Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser] Arafat's terror against Israel is like [Osama] bin Laden's terror against the United States." Sharon told the Jewish leaders that if Palestinian terrorism were to be excluded from Washington's anti-terror endeavors, such efforts could actually weaken Israel's fight against the phenomenon. He asked them, therefore, to help prevent such an eventuality. During the conversation - which participants defined afterward as "difficult and worrying" - Sharon repeatedly stressed: "There is no good terror and bad terror. Terror is terror; and murder is murder." "The war must be against all terrorist organizations, and we cannot compromise with terror," the American Jewish leaders quoted him as saying. Sharon said that Israel would not be willing to pay the "political price" of America's planned coalition.
