AUDREY'S MISSILES
A weekly newsletter dedicated to the peaceful
reform of the United States government.

TERRORISM

The terrorists may have made a major mistake. The attack on the
World Trade Center has lifted America out of her apathy and forced her to
focus attention on her own survival. Did the people of the United States
believe that their country was immune from terrorist attacks? Evidently,
many did. During the last few decades as the media looked the other way
while unscrupulous politicians opened borders and surrendered the
government to the global corporations who were seeking trade agreements in
order to exploit the rich American market. Unrestrained by any country,
these multi-national giants have run rough-shod over many peoples in many
parts of the world and have done economic harm in the US as
well. Foreigners think our government is an arrogant bully. This from a
Yugoslav newspaper: "Americans direct foreign policy and commit violence
against foreign countries and peoples in a very tangible way and for their
own interests, not always in the name of high values." So now the story is
out in the open, but in spite of the greed and corrpution of those in power
America has every right to defend herself.

The crucial element, the element of surprise, is gone. When those
two airliners hit the towers the terrorists blew their cover, and America
is now on the alert. The Anthrax attack has added another urgent warning,
and public health units are being beefed up nation-wide. Governors have
been alerted to make plans to protect bridges, dams, electrical facilities
and public water supplies. Private companies are investing in security
personnel and devices at a record rate. Citizens are on the alert and are
becoming involved in terror protection activities. There is some
discussion about protecting agriculture, but nothing is said about the
danger of imported food! (It's the tombstone complex; they won't do
anything about this until many people die of food poisoning.) Also, the
WTC attack was so horrible that it has brought sympathy and help from
governments world-wide.

The attack on the twin towers has done something else that AUDREYS
MISSILES and other Americans have been trying to do for a long time:
beefed up border security. It has postponed (and hopefully killed)
Congressional action on amnesty for illegals and also for the entry of
Mexican trucks. Texas citizens have long wanted troops at the border, and
Congress may summon the courage to provide them. George W. Bush, not known
for his intellect, is still talking "free trade." In spite of the economic
downturn caused mainly by the flight of factories overseas, both he and
Colin Powell say that free trade is now more important than ever. It is
plain that George Bush has no grasp of the situation. Colin Powell is
either deficient in his understanding of economics or else he is just
trying to please the boss and his corporate friends, and both should know
that every little hole in our borders is one more opportunity for
terrorists to enter. Has it dawned on Washington that the Clinton brand
of "free trade" opens borders not only to legitimate commerce, but to
criminals? Have they added two and two and realized that their own
personal safety depends on border security? How many citizens will die
before they close the immigration loopholes? In the midst of grief and
anger, Americans realize they have lost control of their government, and if
the terrorists don't get them, the politicians will.
