-Caveat Lector-

Just a few comments on the article below...

I don't know where Reuters got Waterbury from...the victim is from Oxford,
which is about 15 miles southwest of Waterbury (and only about 10 miles
away from where I live)...and she is currently being treated at Griffin
Hospital in Derby, which is the next town over from me...

She is elderly (local news say she's 94), a widow and mostly a shut-in, so
it's a real mystery as to how she could have contracted inhalation anthrax.
According to local news reports, the diagnosis of inhalation anthrax has
been confirmed; her relatives first brought her to Griffin's ER last
Friday, thinking she had a bad case of flu effecting her respiratory
system...to the hospital's credit (especially considering it's a
small-hick-town hospital), when the victim proceeded to deteriorate rapidly
over the next few hours after admission they immediately suspected anthrax
and began tests for it. The victim is currently in critical condition.
Her clothing has been bagged as a precaution.

Oxford is semi-rural, still has a lot of farms, especially horse farms;
anthrax CAN be found naturally in the soil, and since apparantly this
elderly woman did not receive any strange items in the mail containing
mysterious powders, perhaps she contracted it 'naturally' -- although how a
94-year-old shut-in would do this is unknown. And is it perhaps
coincidence that our state senator, Chris Dodd, is reported to have
received an anthrax letter today?

Tonight Oxford is crawling with local LEOs, state and federal hazmat teams,
and the FBI....
