WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a Prelude to War! ARABS WON'T SAVE IRAQ FROM PREZ By DEBORAH ORIN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- November 30, 2001 -- WASHINGTON - Team Bush yesterday signaled Arab objections won't stop the United States from acting against Iraq's Saddam Hussein if the president believes it's needed in the war on terror. The White House comments came after Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher met with Secretary of State Colin Powell and relayed Arab concerns about a possible U.S. strike against Iraq. White House press secretary Ari Fleischer noted President Bush's Sept. 20 speech to the nation said "that in the war against terrorism, you were either with freedom or you were against freedom. And nothing has changed the president's view on that." Asked if Arab concerns will constrain Bush's ability to act, Fleischer said that's "premature" because Bush is still in the first phase of the terror war, and focused on Afghanistan. Another White House official said, "We reserve the right to act in our own self-defense." After meeting with the Egyptian foreign minister and hearing Arab concerns, Powell said, "We understand the caution of some of our friends." Powell said he is taking their concerns into consideration, but made no commitments, saying, "For now, this is nothing for us to disagree on." Bush this week touched off speculation about Iraq when he demanded Saddam admit U.N. weapons inspectors into his country. When asked what will happen if Saddam refused, Bush shot back, "He'll find out." Many analysts believe any action against Iraq would likely follow moves against places like Somalia and Yemen. *COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U. S. C.
